Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) began in Europe and Japan as a reaction to the gradual loss of quality in produce as farms grew farther away from the center of their own communities. 

 
In America food travels an average of 1500 miles before it reaches the dinner plate. Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is a partnership between a local farm and a community of supporters which provides a direct link between the production and consumption of locally grown food. 

Members of a CSA cover a portion of the farm’s yearly operating budget by purchasing a share of the season’s harvest.  Becoming a member of a CSA creates a responsible relationship between people and the food they eat, the land on which it is grown and those who grow it.


How does it work?
Rosie Creek Farm members pick up a share once a week from late June to mid September at a central distribution point in their neighborhood.  Currently, Rosie Creek Farm has three different distribution sites; two in Fairbanks and one at the farm. We also ship CSA shares to Healy.   

Members can arrange to have someone else pick up their share if they are out of town.  Any shares left at the distribution sites will be donated to local food banks unless prior arrangements are made before the pick up day. 


What’s in a share?
Given an average harvest, a share provides enough vegetables to feed 2-4 adults eating a vegetable based diet. Each week you will receive 7-12 different varieties of vegetables.  that change with the growing season.  From early summer with luscious salad and stir fry greens, scallions and radishes, through the peak of the summer with rich flavored tomatoes, freshly picked peas, green beans, and broccoli and into the cool days of fall with hearty root vegetables like Yukon Gold potatoes, carrots, winter squash, beets, and garlic.

Sharing shares
If you would like to purchase a half share, we ask that you find someone to split the share with.  We request that you indicate on your enrollment form one primary shareholder, who will be responsible for making the payments to the farm. The share must be picked up all at once-you cannot swing in and pick up only your half of the vegetables. Some people divide their share by picking up on alternate weeks.


Bouquet Shares
Rosie Creek Farm has always taken great pride in growing and arranging organic specialty cut flowers. This summer we will once again be offering a limited number of bouquet shares which will run for eight weeks from mid July through August. Bouquets are picked up with the vegetable shares.
